Science Museum

If you plan to visit Barcelona during your Costa Brava holidays it may be interesting to go to CosmoCaixa, a science museum financed by La Caixa bank. Open since 2005 it is probably the largest museum in Barcelona - not surprisingly, as it has a huge zone representing an ecosystem of Amazon rainforest. Birds, fish, animals and reptiles - they all here. Overall, it is one of the best scientific museums in the world.

The visit is even more interesting if you have children in your group - there are many curiosities on display in the museum explaining different weather effects, life creation on Earth, etc. There are many answers to many questions. Permanent exhibition is usually complimented by some temporarily exhibitions such as optical effects, numerology, etc. The entire museum visit will take 2-3 hours and may be combined with a trip to the Tibidabo hill. You'll need to go to the bus stop or take a Blue Tram uphill to the Plaça Dr Andreu where you may take a funicular train to the top of the hill, to visit the Tibidabo Amusement park and the Temple de Sagrat Cor and enjoy a panoramic view over the Barcelona.

How to get there

Take the FGC Line L7, the train line integrated into the Barcelona metro system (different tickets, though!). It runs from Plaça Catalunya to "Av. del Tibidabo" and you have to get off at the last stop. Just a few steps from the exit, on the other side of the street and next to Rotonda building, you will see the stop of the Tramvia Blau (Blue Tram) and two bus stops. Take bus 196 and get off at the next stop. You'll see a submarine displayed in the middle of the road by the stop. Follow signs to the Science Museum. You may also travel by Tramvia Blau. Alternatively, you may walk about 800 meters uphill from the metro through a beautiful district of Tibidabo with picturesque mansions. This is a good walk you won't regret. Follow the Blue Tram's tracks and turn left after ~500 m. You won't miss the place.
